LGV Category C+E Articulated Lorry Licence
Often called “LGV Class 1 licence”, “HGV Class 1 licence” or “Artic’ licence”. This licence allows you to drive any lorry such as supermarket lorries, car transporters and petrol tankers and involves taking one more practical driving test. The test is similar to the rigid (C) test, but includes an un-couple / re-couple exercise, usually at the end. It is obviously different to drive and reverse because of the extra length and the fact that it “bends”.
This test can only be taken after the rigid lorry (C) has been passed.
At Kent and Medway LGV, the category C +E vehicles are ex MoD training vehicles and are ideal for training purposes. As they are minimum vehicle requirements (length and weight) for test, they are among the easiest LGV vehicles on the road to learn in. They are in good condition, reliable and relatively low mileage as they have only been used for training from new. The test can be taken in the same vehicle that you passed your category C test in but with a trailer (known as draw bar). A full size articulated lorry (tractor unit / trailer) can be used for category C+E training if required. Both give you the same licence.
